Preparation Laser Hair Removal
There are many things you can do to ensure that you will get the best results from your hair removal sessions. The clinic where you will receive your treatments will give you specific instructions, and these are important to follow. Make sure to ask questions if you are unclear about any of these instructions. However, there are general guidelines that will give you the beautiful results you are looking for.
Early Laser Hair Removal Preparation
Two weeks before your first session, stop removing hair from the area that is going to be treated. This includes shaving, plucking, creams and waxing. The lasers that will be used in your treatments react to the melanin in the follicles of the hair, so it is important that the follicles are not damaged. This will ensure that the treatments are as effective as possible.
It is also important to stop tanning several weeks before your first session. You want the skin surrounding the hair that is going to be removed to be as light as possible. Melanin is the pigment that makes your hair and skin darker. Since the laser reacts to the melanin in skin and hair, the lighter the skin, the more the laser will be drawn to the hair follicles.
Since your treatments are likely to make your skin red and irritated for a while after a session, consider if you want to schedule your appointments to coincide with time off from work or other appointments. If you are having hair removed from your face, be aware of any potential embarrassment you may feel.
Before to the Laser Hair Removal Day
Make sure to ask your technician, but most clinic will have you shave the area to be treated 24 hours before your session. This reduces the amount of damage to the surface hair and skin and makes the session more comfortable.
On the day of your session, wash the area to be treated with soap and water, but do not apply any creams, lotions or makeup of any kind. If your underarms are going to be treated, do not use deodorant or antiperspirants.
If you are concerned about discomfort during your treatment, ask your clinic about topical anesthetics, which are gels used to numb the skin. You can also take a pain killer such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen 15 to 20 minutes before your treatment starts.
Taking the proper preparations will ensure that your laser hair removal sessions give you the fabulous results you want. A little bit of preparation goes a long way towards creating a new, beautiful you.
